Be Your Own Boss!
Ever dreamed of having your own business? An IT startup? Do you just like talking business models or coding web or mobile apps?
Join us at Cebu Startup Weekend with other entrepreneurial minds on June 7-9, 2013 at the Buttenbruch Hall, University of San Carlos – Main Campus, Cebu City.
The three-day workshop brings together web designers, software developers, marketers, business nerds and industry heavyweights helping each other build and create new ideas and innovations for startups on-site over an entire weekend.
With a tagline of “all action no talk” the weekend starts with a Friday session where participants pitch their startup business ideas, and team up to discuss and formulate plans. The strongest ideas are selected by the crowd and teams are formed for the workshops that start on Saturday.
Teams then create business models, design the minimum viable product (MVP) and start coding. During the weekend, mentors and coaches do one-on-one talks with each team, giving them feedback and sharing their expertise. The weekend culminates with the teams showcasing their startup projects to an esteemed panel of judges.
Synacy will attend as a number of our developers and business line staff will join in as participants, while our CEO will be one of the judges. We will be scouting for talent at events like this for those with the right mix of innovation and exceptional performance. In the lead up to the weekend, one of our developers from Orange & Bronze will also be giving a talk about Grails.
Startup Weekend Cebu started in May 2012 with 20 teams creating innovations and launching businesses based on pitched startup ideas. Synacy Inc. had the privilege of joining the 2nd SWC last November 2012 as mentors and as sponsors this year, together with Orange & Bronze, Globe, Kickstart Ventures, University of San Carlos, Symph, All Cebu, PRWorks, Third Team Media, Web Ninja Mobile and MyNimo.
Other judges in the event include Jean Patrick Bisson of Clicking Labs, Bunny Pages of Mooon Cafe and Thirsty and Calen Martin Legaspi, CEO of Orange and Bronze Software Labs. The event is also supported by Junior Chamber International Mandaue and the Department of Science and Technology.
This year’s coaches will be led by local entrepreneurial leaders including NG Khai founder Wilson Ng, RLCOMM International founder Ruben Licera and TekWorx founder Bert Azura Padilla. Other coaches Kahlil Corazo of SWNext, Fleire Castro of Third Team Media, UX / UI Guru Val Nizam Villar, Elmar John Valmores of Zoomstra Inc, Kenneth Ruelan of Caresharing and Jerome Locson of Luto.co.
This year’s event, organized by TechTalks.ph and Department of Economics of University of San Carlos, is also supported by Startup Weekend, a non-profit organization composed of passionate entrepreneurs all over the world learning the basics in putting up and launching successful startups.
