Synacy and 99designs Logo Contest Winner
We’re excited as today marks the day when we decided on and took delivery of our company logo. This has been one of those things that needed to be done with the care and attention that’s deserved of what is to become the visual symbol that represents the company.
We had a number of choices, and all involved a few primary colours as we wished to have a fresh colourful look. We all seemed to like the optimism and freshness. We ended up choosing a design that was entered quite late in the process by a designer we had in the final round. It was both surprising and exciting to see the previously two highest liked designs being challenged like this and in the end we are very happy with the result.
As always at Synacy, we’re fans of using platforms and online tools to make our business stronger and the fantastic platform that allowed us to pour through over 1345 entries from 277 designers for our very own logo was 99designs.
Described by The Wall Street Journal as a “market design marketplace” 99designs was founded by fellow Aussies in Melbourne. Since its launch in 2008 it has managed to funnel over $45,000,000 in payments to their designers- an astounding number when considering the immense value this can deliver to a business.
In terms of process you upload your brief, send 99designs some money which they hold in escrow, then designers will submit their concepts for you to review. This is great for things such as logo design or a single web page where, even if you had an internal graphic design team, it’s often hard to see a great number of different concepts of the same brief.
We were astounded by the general response and loved the ability to ask designers of concepts that we thought had real potential to develop their ideas further from our input and guidance.
We also thought it was incredibly hard won by our winner chivee of Indonesia with his excellent design, which is 4 S’s put together with a synergy of colours. It’s also evocative of curly braces which, anyone who’s stared at any sort of code, scripting or even bad movies will recognise as being related to programming.
