Synacy Software Engineering Graduate Program batch one

Three months have passed since the graduates started their training at Synacy.  During their first month here, they were given an orientation on different Synacy products as well as business introduction, architecture overview and code reviews.  Up until their sixth month, they will be engaging in pair programming, debriefing sessions, mentoring and full involvement with Agile Development Lifecycle.

Let us see how the graduates are doing so far in their training here at Synacy.

Mark Lynoel Alvarez

What are you currently working on?

I am currently working on the Quality of Service for Synacy’s new product.

What have you learned or gained so far?

I learned more about Java Frameworks, Groovy and Grails. Both Grails and Groovy are new to me  since I have always utilized the Java language. I am enjoying my stay in Cebu and I am quickly learning the Cebuano language, though I miss my family and my girlfriend back home.

What are the things that you enjoy most in the program? in the company?

I enjoy every learning opportunity I am gaining in the company. I love the open environment where we can freely talk and coordinate with our team and the management and the free stuffs.

What are the difficulties/challenges you faced?

Everything is new for me. It’s hard to comprehend sometimes. It can be frustrating but I see these challenges positively as part of learning.

What are you hoping to achieve in the program?

I am hoping to learn more in the program and to continue working in a stable, fun work environment.

Miguel Lopez

What are you currently working on?

“World domination”, according to Tom. It’s a website whose final goal is to send any type of messages anywhere in the world.

What have you learned or gained so far?

Working with a vcs in a team is definitely one of the scariest, and more important skills I learned. On top of that all the different languages and frameworks that we had to use really forced me to improve as a programmer. Being good in just one language just doesn’t cut it here. You have to be able to learn new things and learn them fast.

What are the things that you enjoy most in the program? in the company?

I love the training. I know Synacy isn’t doing it selflessly. They’re training me because I’m not useful to them unless I’m properly trained, but I appreciate it nonetheless. The office is also such a great place to work in. You don’t feel stressed (not unnecessarily, anyway). You don’t feel caged. You are free to work however you want to work (with deference to the needs of your teammates, of course). The weekly stretch goals and daily feedback reports also help the week feel short. Being in the office just doesn’t feel like work to me.

What are the difficulties/challenges you faced?

I believe having to learn new languages/frameworks/tools/etc.The difficulties/challenges I faced are not much outside of the expected.

What are you hoping to achieve in the program?

I want to be able to improve every single day that I work here and learn more things.

Marcelito Guzman

What are you currently working on?

I am currently working on Quality of Service(QoS). We are currently working on implementing a monitoring tool, ElasticSeach and Kibana, to provide visual presentation for our data like graphs.

What have you learned or gained so far?

I learned new languages, frameworks, tools, and technologies. I learned to be versatile.

What are the things that you enjoy most in the program? in the company?

I enjoy the training and the work environment.

What are the difficulties/challenges you faced?

The need to learn new technologies, tools, frameworks, and languages in a short span of time can be difficult and challenging.

What are you hoping to achieve in the program?

I am hoping to achieve efficiency.

Roy Carmelo Reroma

What are you currently working on?

I am currently working on one of Synacy’s clients focused on internet fax, specifically on white label.

What have you learned or gained so far?

I have learned to work around Github, Test Driven Development and Groovy on Grails, and working with a team.

What are the things that you enjoy most in the program? in the company?

I enjoy learning new things in our training and the free drinks.

What are the difficulties/challenges you faced?

As expected, learning something new is a challenge but it is also where most of the fun begins.

What are you hoping to achieve in the program?

I’m hoping to learn a lot from this program and to improve my programming skills.

Mark Javier

What are you currently working on?

I was working on development and infrastructure and later transferred to white label.

What have you learned or gained so far?

I learned to work on the Amazon Web Service and Grails.

What are the things that you enjoy most in the program? in the company?

I enjoy the free coffee.

What are the difficulties/challenges you faced?

The difficulties I encountered are the new technology I have to learn in a short time, apply it and to work on various tasks.

What are you hoping to achieve in the program?

At the end, I would be learning a lot more than what I did few months ago.

Michael Suarez

What are you currently working on?

What are the things that you enjoy most in the program? in the company?

I enjoy collaborating with my teammates and also the training.

What are the difficulties/challenges you faced?

I find using new technologies and tools to be quite difficult and challenging.

What are you hoping to achieve in the program?

I am hoping to enhance my skills in programming and to become a valued contributor of this company.

What’s next for the graduates?

After undergoing intensive mentoring and tutoring for six months, the graduates will be evaluated. Once they pass, they will be appointed as full time associates and will be given new responsibilities and access to more company benefits. They will also have the opportunity to become team leaders as the second batch of graduates are already in training.
